The family pauses to admire the majesty of the scenery at Craters of the Moon National Monument in Idaho.
Craters is not well known. Partly because it is remote and far from popular travel routes. That means it is great for those of us who enjoy escaping from the crowd.
The monument preserves a huge area of volcanic plains and hills. It includes a variety of small and large lava tubes and volcanic caves you can explore on your own. The monument is surrounded by mile after mile of beautifully stark plains and distant desert mountains.
